Let’s take a moment to acknowledge that we live, work, and play on lands that have been inhabited long before settlers arrived, and to honour Indigenous ways of knowing and being. I personally feel very grateful and lucky that I get to live in such an amazing place!

Big thanks to the Social Committee, and everyone who helped out, for putting together some engaging presentations and activities this morning. Also, shout out to Brady M. for his delivery of a prepared speech to the group, and to Keith T. for his Indigenous-inspired singing and drumming. The group was very attentive!
Social Committee presented an educational video about the history of residential schools in Canada, as well as the beginning of orange shirt day. Participants responded to the video with a meaningful discussion of their thoughts and feelings. It can be a heavy topic, but important to acknowledge. Thanks to everyone for their thoughtful input!
Participants then partook in painting “Resilience Stones” orange, which were later adorned with symbols and messages and then placed in a ring around a tree outside. The group also traced their handprints and then wrote messages on them before adding them to a “Reconciliation Tree” to create a beautiful collage!
It was lovely to see so many people wearing orange shirts in support of Truth & Reconciliation Day!
Thank you everyone!
